We have far too many dogs to spend 150 dollars for 6 months of Frontline for my VERY large dog.
Up until now, we've been able to at least keep the fleas at a minimum.
Home remedies aren't working for these fleas. We live in a sandy area... so we have wondered if these are sand fleas? Whatever they are, they are immune to every flea product I have tried.
The last product I bought was a small spray bottle I paid 25 dollars for, obviously price doesn't make much differance when it comes to flea products from the store.
They do nothing whatsoever, I wash all 4 dogs, spray all of them down, flea comb them, and treat the entire house. By the middle of the next day, they are crawling with them again.
I've never seen anything like this before.
Surely someone must have a clue?????

As long as there are fleas in the enviornment there will be fleas on your pet no matter waht you use, however using products such as Advantage & Frontline will help control the flea population. It not only kills the adults taht get on your pet but Frontline will kill the eggs and larve. OTC products(this includes Hartz, Zodiac, Sargents,Bio-Spot just to name a few, while seemingly cheap are worthless and they are also very dangerous. They contain high levels of pesticides in concentrated form. They can cause neurological issues, seizures and death.
Also the more you wash your dogs the more you encourage the fleas to come to your dog. They like ultra clean.
If you are using bombs in the house this is also worthless as bombs simply go up in the air and down on surfaces where fleas aren't. The best flea control for the house is 1 ) get a safe flea household spray such as Knockout from your vet 2) vacumn every single day paying particualr attention to under furniture, couch and chair cushions, around baseboards, cracks & crevices, mattresses and boxsprings throw out the bag in an outside trash container after every single vacumning. 3) treat the outside around your house. You can get safe treatments from farm supply and hardware stores 4) vacumn your cars 5 ) wash all bedding & clothes and dog beds in water as hot as the fabric can stand and dry that that can be in a dryer.

Go to your garden center and get a bottle of Malithion concentrate. Read and follow the label directions carefully when mixing and using. It stinks but it can be used inside and outside. Spray the entire yard where the dogs run. spray everything they lay on in the house and all the floors. Let the stink out open windows and doors (air it out). It does stink bad so have some kind of candle or incense to burn. Careful of dishes and plastic items. it does spot. Wash any exposed dishes. Give the dogs a good bath with flea soap which is usually a lot cheaper that even one collar. All this must be done on the same day as one (1) project. Fleas live through anything. I saw one that had been vacuum sealed in a bag for seven (7) years. They cut the bag and let in air and out jumped the flea. Malithion works so they will ban it soon. It sure does stink though.

Outside, you should sprinkle boric acid (it comes in a white powder form that looks like baking soda) in the areas where they play, use the bathroom, sleep, or whatever. This will kill the fleas but should harm the dogs. You only need to do this once at the beginning of the warm season.

You can also take them to the vet and get what's called a "dip" to really get rid of a big problem. It sounds like you may need to do this once if the other things don't work.

At Kmart there's a generic frontline that we use, and it works great. Our labs are 90 & 110 lbs each, so they're large as well. We apply it only once per month (down their spine area) during the hot months, starting in May.

I've had a flea problem once before on my cat. I was desperate to find something that worked. I have used borax on the carpets. You sprinkle it down & leave it for days before you vacuum it up. I've also tried & had great success with a product called Zodiac Multi-purpose Home & Insect Spray. It killed the fleas & eggs within 15 minutes. I used Zodiac Flea & tick spray directly on the cat & it killed them instantly. The fleas just fell off like crazy. I swear by these two products. I tried Bio Spot & didn't have any luck with it. It's 100% guaranteed. They have a web site also: zodiacpet.com They also have a ph. # if you want more info: 1-800-950-4783. I swear by this product & hope you can get rid of your flea problem. For your dog's sake as well as yours!! Good luck.

I do it the natural way. Its been working so far. Bathe your dog with blue dawn dish soap. I would use an oatmeal moisturising conditioner too. Then sprinkle some Borax in your yard and on your carpet. Vaccuum

BTW dont use flea shampoo from hartz. My dogs dont like flea shampoo since it must stay on. Flea dips work wonders too. BUT like I said I go natural

Also that Ortho thing that person above was talking about works wonders too. It will also keep bugs out of your house. I used to use it. We dont live in a high flea area but sounds like you have an infestation

Treat your yard or area around the house for fleas...that will at least help decrease the number of fleas. No product out there actually repels fleas, but the top of the line ones do at least sterilize and kill off the fleas within 20 minutes.

Dog.com has either Advantix or Frontline at decent or the best prices I have seen.

I use on otc called Bio Spot. I've used it for over ten yrs on all of my dogs (3) and on all the rescues that I have had. It works! And it's a lot cheaper than the Frontline or Advantage from the vet.

Advantage is the best for flea control but it doesn't control ticks.
I ordre Advantage from Australia and it's a lot cheaper. I have 3 animals that receive Advantage monthly. It's worth the money. The time, effort and money involved in trying to rid an infestation is horrible!

advantix
it is cheaper but i think i was scammed the last time i was at the vet
they said that advantix was on "backorder" in other words buy the frontline so we can get more money out of you
it would be cheaper if they didnt spend so much cash on the advertising!!!
you will need to treat them with soemthing from the vet because the other stuff doesnt seem to work for you
have you tried the mail order sites for these products?
