I think it depends on whether there is a responsible human willing to care for the dog. Many dogs are capable of hurting a human, whether it is in self defense or inadvertently. If there is someone willing to take control of the dog, offer correct training and supervision then there is no reason why the dog should be put down. On the other hand if the dog is a stray, was in a home where he was abused or if the original owners no longer want him then I do think the dog should be put down. There are so many dogs waiting in shelters who don't come with that kind of baggage it is not fair for a dog who has a troubled history to take up space while another dog gets pts. The worst thing for a dog in this situation is to end up in a 'no-kill' shelter where he may spend the rest of his life.

Depends on the situation, but if it was a vicious attack on a person, especially a child, it should be put down because people rearly comply with having the dog wear a muzzle, register as a dangerous dog, and other conditions placed on them by a court.

If you knew your neighbors dog bit a child badly, would you let YOUR kid alone with the dog and risk that is a "one time thing"????? If you would, you are a BAD parent!! Then when the dog mauls YOUR kid, you would want to sue and have the dog put down!! So do not expect others to have to be around a dog that has had even a "one time" problem with aggression.

I think each case should be looked into and considered carefully to find out what set the dog off.
If a dog gets loose and bites someone who has continually gone out of their way to tease or threaten the dog then the person got what he/she deserved.
If someone threatens it's owner and dog bites then again person got what they deserved.
If owner of dog thinks it funny to command their dog to bite others then that owner should face jail time and dog should be evaluated to see if it's overly aggressive behavior can be modified to make it a useful part of society.
Dogs just don't go around biting and hurting people for no reason.Unfortuneately there are too many unwanted dogs in the world now and it's easier to put them down than deal with each ones special needs.

It depends on the severity. I work in a Doggie Daycare and have been bit a few times, none of the reason where provoked by me and the dogs weren't put down, but were not invited back. But if it were a situation where it actually mauled a human being, then yes. It is all about responsibility. Would you be willing to take on and control a dog that is aggressive or vicious. That is a lot to ask anyone to do. And it is a responsibility of that dog's people to take on if that dog actually kills a child or person. Do you want that to be on your conscious?

It depends on the situration. If a dog was being abused and finally fought back, then no I don't believe the dog should be put down. Now if a dog had rabies and bit someone then yes the dog should be put down not only for our protection but the dog's species as well as other animals. If something provoked the dog to attack then I don't believe it should be put down but if the dog was suddenly "mad" then for everyone's sake bein enthunized would be the best suggestion. Overall I don't believe a dog should be put down for harming someone unles it was a rabid dog. Do us humans put others down when we hurt some one? No we just go to jail or be corrected or left unpunished...

If some owner can't or won't control a dangerous dog, then unfortunately it's the dog that's going to be put to sleep. No amount of training can fix bad temperament - you cannot fix a dog that has learned that he can bite whenever he wants to. No one should have to be afraid that they are going to be attacked just walking down the street or delivering the mail.

Absolutely Not! If this was a one time thing, not something that happens often, give the poor animal another chance. The animal may have been aggravated.

i was bitten several times as a child. want to know why? cuz i irritated the dog. the dog was not put down. it was my fault. lots of times when dogs attack, its the person's fault, not the dog's. they are reacting.
