I make certain 'informed' assumptions on them - but never have hard opinions until I get to know them as a person.

Sometimes I do...I'll judge a man by the car he drives and what he's wearing. If he's in a raggedy car with raggedy clothes but has expensive jewels or a cell phone, I know he has some money somewhere and he may just be looking raggedy and driving a piece of crap to keep the golddiggers away. Then again, I can tell the ones who are just downright broke, dirty and tired, sweating in the summertime with no AC on. If a man has on namebrand clothing and nice cologne, I figure he has money to spare, but is probably a stingy SOB who won't spend any on no one but himself. If a woman has lots of kids with no husband, I feel she's fast (slutty) and lazy to keep laying around having kids from men who don't want to be around. I don't really judge fat people, because they're fat because they like to eat obviously, or some of them have that "gland" problem. I never judge by race or religion though, that's kind of overboard. We shouldn't be judging people at all honestly but its human nature, we do a lot of wrong things without thinking about it.

I would prefer to call it first impressions...We all have an impression of someone the first time that we see them, whether it be positive or negative. Now, we all know not to judge someone by the way they look, because looks can certainly be deceiving; however I do caution my daughter that if she wants to send a good impression to people, she should dress appropriately and hang out with people who do the same. If you associate with someone who looks strange, or different you too can send out a negative first impression. Let's face it...if the book doesn't look good, you probably won't even open the book and give it a chance. Sounds wrong, but our society is very critical and judgmental.

I'd like to say no, but honestly I do. I don't pay attention to skin color, cars, number of kids, body size, or anything like that, it's more how someone dresses or carries themself that makes me judge them. Hygiene, dental upkeep, and fingernails are a big thing for me, too. And I don't mean that a person has to be wearing designer clothes to make me have a higher opinion of them, they could be wearing Walmart brand and I don't care. If someone looks as if they took the effort to look nice, took some pride in their appearance, I tend to have a better first opinion of them.

Lets be honest now shall we. I do. I do it all the time. I am a hairstylist and I meet alot of people everyday. I make assumptions on their lives based on how they talk, act, look, smell, drive. Everything. Am i wrong sometimes but more often I am correct. That might be because I have been in the people industry for 17 years and I talk one on one with every type of class and person out there. It is not like I'm stereotyping them, I am basing my guess on previous similar experiences.

the way someone looks is part of their personality (excepting the strict physical look) so it's fair to judge someone by that (at what degree You judge them is the important part). Judging people by physical looks is wrong. The only question that is fair regarding physical looks is weather it is a suitable sexual companion for You.

I don't on the things you listed, but I do on how they act. If they walk around all the time with a sour look on their face or are rude to people. I could care less how someone looks. You don't have to be attractive to be a good person. I get tired of people judging me on my looks. I would rather them get to know me, not just hit on me.I have friends of all races, financial status, religions, sizes and looks. I have met and got to know a lot of great people from not judging them. =)

Sometimes I do. I feel that the car you drive says something about you. It isn't always bad. IF they had alot of kids, sometimes I think they are on welfare.

Absolutely. I judge everyone on how they look. Rather, I assess and sometimes judge, usually if I'm in a bitchy mood.

However, I also keep an open mind and revise my opinion if necessary. And I don't necessarily act on my judgments or assessments.

A man named Molloy studied this very topic, in the area of employment. Most personnel managers said pretty much what you folks have said. "Who, me? No, not me. I am a professional and hire purely for ability."

Yet, with special studies, he soon found out they were a sorry prejudiced bunch (my words, not Molloys) who look for very specific social class dress; posture; and walk -- though they don't realize they are doing it.

If you want a good job, you had better get a copy of (depending upon your gender) DRESS FOR SUCCESS; or DRESS FOR SUCCESS FOR WOMEN. Also, LIVE FOR SUCCESS.

When I was younger I use to. Now that I'm older I look beyond what someone wears or what they own or their physical appearance. There is so much more to a person than what is seen on the outside!
