I strongly disagree. That's like saying save the lions. It's the owners irresponsibilites, not the animal. And to the poster that says they've never seen an aggressive pit bull? What planet are you living on? wow. I used to have an open mind about pit bulls.. saying oh it's just the owners. Well unfortunately I've now personally experienced 100% negative regarding pit bulls.. and only about 5% negative regarding any other breeds.. and that 5% is like a bee sting vs. an arm being ripped off. Every time I go to the dog park.. I see a pit bull picking a fight with other dogs.. trying to be top on the totem poll. We don't go to the dog parks anymore because of this fear of our dog becoming the next pit bulls Sunday brunch. It's sad. We see no other dogs having issues at the parks. A few little upsets but nothing like these pit bulls. Most pit bulls that attack will lock down not let go and thrash about.. by nature - by blood - not because of their owner's training habits. And many have killed. I've met pit bulls on dog walks.. No other dog owners do I see holding their dogs back 20 feet away in hopes that that will calm them down from trying to get to our dog. And not ONE pit bull were we able to walk by without it aggressively advancing towards our dog. All breeds have specific personalities and temperments. A majority of pit bull owners have them for one reason.. and it's not because they're cute and cuddly. That's the problem. And until you good people outweigh the bad, I think a ban is the only safe thing. At least in the city where I live. Maybe there are cities where the pit bulls are super nice and wonderful dogs. But I haven't seen one of them here.. so I think they should be banned where I live - I'd rather be approached by a wolf than a pit bull! All dogs can kill. My wife can kill too. But it's not in her blood. If your city bans pit bulls, protest and live somewhere else.

California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia are the States that currently have State level laws prohibiting local municipalities from passing BSL (Breed Select Legislation).

Click on the individual states and another page will come up with various cities within that state that may or may not have BSL.

Try PBRC ,it stands for Pit Bull Rescue Central. They should have a listing of all states that have bsl. Or try Dog watch. They also should have a listing of bsl.

I am not sure of all the states, but I know in Utah it varies by city. The best thing to do is actually call the city center of wherever you want to keep a Pitt Bull. Be carefull I moved to a city and did not know the ordinance. Needless to say I lost my two Pitts, and they made me pay a huge fine. They said I could keep them in the city if I bought a license for each of them costing $20,000 each!!!! crazy. Needless to say I moved.
