Depends on what you mean by "anti-illegal" and "pro-illegal". But yes, you can rest assured that politicians on the campaign trail will whip up anti-immigration fervor to get elected & then do close to nothing of the things they promised to do.
Campaigning involves simple ideas and simple solutions (for simple people.) Actual immigration policy is complex, and simple solutions just won't work if applied as they suggest during the campaigns.
Also, keep in mind that the current president still has two more years in office. Any policy change will have to go through him & he's already made his pro-amnesty position clear. Are you likely to get change in that policy from people in Bush's party, ones who want his help during campaign season? Not likely.

That's a good point, how many 2-faced waffling turncoats are there in office today? Janus-faced candidates with ulterior motives and undue influence from special interests frequently color our history with their amusing exploits, I think that the 'get it in writing' approach to supporting your chosen candidate is pretty wise, campaign promises are never legally binding etc.
What people can do AS voters, though, is keep sending the same consistent message to their city councils, their state legislatures, as well as Congress to END illegal immigration, and start putting the interest and welfare of citizens before that of other countries. Then, there's the issue of competency. Do they even know what they're doing? What can your representative do if you asked em for 500 words on the state of the border etc?
Would you get a sunshine story, or 'uh, duh, um' or some other kind of fancy footwork to compensate for the fact that they just don't know their issues? We need some pretty sharp people in office in these 'interesting times', here's hoping we actually get em...

What is interesting is that the politicians you call "anti-illegal" will actually keep the number of illegal aliens higher, because they do not support a path to legalization. And the people you call "pro-illegal" will actually REDUCE the number of illegal aliens by providing a means for people who are already here to stay here legally.
What you don't understand is that neither side can actually reduce the number of illegal aliens by deporting them, or building higher fences, or whatever other get tough measures you want to name. Those who are "anti-illegal" advocate those measures to get votes, but most of them understand that you are never going to reduce the number of people who want to come here until you can repeal the law of supply and demand. That law is beyond the power of politicians.

Can you say, "Nothing will be done?"
Any candidate who favors action will lose all the legal Mexican votes. And any illegal votes.
