When I was 14 i used to have to be in bed after Eastenders finished. (about 8pm). Even when I was 16 and had a boyfriend I had to be in by 9pm latest (providing he walked me home) and in bed by 10pm. But that was about 10 years ago. I guess things are different nowadays. Why don't you speak to the mothers of your child's friends and see what time they allow their kids to go to bed? Then they will all be going at around the same time and there will be no competition from his friends. Hope that helps.

You should not allow children drag you into an argument which ends up heated and all falling out,it is exactly what they want.
As for bed times,i am a 9 o'clock maximum regardless of age as long as they have school the next day, they wont and don't go straight to sleep anyway, but at least they understand bedtime is a set time of the day, like mealtimes etc.
They need this sleep, which when foundations are put down gives you time off from the hustle of the day,and unwind so you can go to bed relaxed yourself.
I was going to go on about the maturity of the child, but if your asking, then maturity is lacking in the child.

I think discipline is something that is lacking now a days and laying down bed time rules is a good thing i think 10 is quite late not to late if the child is reading or spending time with the family, but other than that i don't think a child of that age should be going to bed to late

Well on a school night she should have to go at 9:00 or 9;30pm, 10 is not too early.

Once she gets use to this she may start doing it on her own

10 pm is kinda early. 11 is good. Maybe you need to pull a tough love to get this one sorted out. Let him stay up as long as he wants and when he realizes how tired he is the next day he'll have learned a good lesson. My mom did it to me and it worked like a charm.

Good Luck

I think 10 pm is right! He needs his sleep. Studies have proved that teenagers need more sleep than almost any other age group except infants. I made my highschoolers shut it down my 11. One of my sons just started college today and he said he needed more sleep and will go back to the old 10-11 bedtime. Your son doesn't know whats best for him, you do. Stick to your guns and the 10pm bedtime.

Actually I think 9.30 is a reasonable time for a 14yo. They have time to relax after dinner, do a bit of homework if they have any, and it is better for them during the school day to be more rested. It also gives them more time in the morning to have a good breakfast instead of being tired and sleeping in till the last minute. You are the parent, remember that.
