Old wive's tales that tell you to say the alphabet backwards while standing on your head and drinking water...these are all tomake you feel silly and forget the hiccuping.

To understand what hiccups are, feel the area that is affected, right under your ribcage. Your diaphraghm, a special muscle used to control your breathing, is having spasms, causing air to come up, and hiccup.

I was in choir for 4 years, and the best treatment for me was to focus on that muscle just like any other, and relax. Breathe slowly through your nose, from your belly-button. Concentrate relaxing that muscle long enough, and they should be gone.

Once you become good at it, you will become like me, and rarely hiccup again. If you do, you will be able to quickly control it (a must on stage!)

A teaspoon of vinegar; yawn, if you can do it at will;breathe in and out with a paper bag over your mouth and nose; raise your arms above your head and lean to one side, then the other; all of these work some of the time - good luck!

Get a paper bag, hold by putting your thumb and forefinger together and folding the bag around them near the top, and breathe in and out into it.

Another way is to do a headstand and drink a glass of water!!

Or hold your breath!
