I'm about 4 monthes pregnant, can my boyfriends smoking effect the baby even though he smokes outside? Can just the scent remaining on him effect my body in any way?

No... but it can hurt the baby once he/she arrives... Even stale cigarette smoke on his clothes can cause the baby to get an ear infection, strep throat, etc.. Encourage him to quit.. It will be good for everyone!

Congrats on the baby!

The smoke is outside.
Don't worry about the scent. Up until 1960's parents did not even know that smoking was bad for them. There is an entire generation of kids born to smoking moms. It effected them - but that was directly breathing the smoke.

Personally , I am affected strongly by being passed by a person who has recently smoked.. I choke up and have breathing problems. I have some strong opinions about smoking, but facts are facts... whatever you breath in goes into your bloodstream and therefore into your baby! And Smoking or secondhand smoke (some consider worse because it is the exhale including the carbon normally exhaled from lungs) IS BAD for your Baby , side effects include Low birth weight, premature birth, addiction to nicotine and others.. all bad.. please stay away from smoke or even the hint of it... It is a dangerous world enough after the baby is born.. Your boyfriend, if he respects you and your baby will refrain from smoking around you or will wait until after visits to smoke.

Yes, I was told that even the lingering smell is lingering toxins in the air. When the smell is strong the toxins are strong. For the first few minutes after that person that is smoking comes inside they even actually have some smoke in their lungs. Keep in mind, you can't be a nag. Just make sure your bf knows that it can harm the baby, and make you sick. Just ask that he stay outside when he is done or just not come around you right after. I used to smoke, it is not an easy thing to quite doing. good luck. If he wants help quiting, he can call the truth tobacco line. They actually give out the patch and nicotine gum.

If he's smoking outside away from the door there should be no effects. Remind him though that this is his baby too and wouldn't it be nice for the child to grow up with a dad who doesn't smoke.

NO matter where they do it smoking is not good for a child. The smell will stay on the clothing and it just isn't a good site

yes any carcinogen in the air can adversely affect your health and the health of the baby. Your child at this stage of development is reliant on your immune system, having not developed a fully functional one of its own. Anything that can adversely affect your health, will affect the health of your child.
