Throughout the lifespan up to age 65 years, women generally tend to have higher suicide rates than men. However, at age 65 the suicide rate of men spikes to an extremely high level. This is thought to be the result of aging, such that these men feel that they have not accomplished all that they had hoped to, their sexual performance is diminished, they may not be in a relationship, and they may have many regrets.

In the UK it's certainly true that proportionally more men than women commit suicide, though the overall suicide rate here is at the lowest rate for 20 years. Things are different when looking at mental health problems and depression though that may be that women are more likely to seek treatment than men.

Yes it is true.... there is contraversy as to why though. Some say it is because women speak about their feelings more freely, and talk the depression out, while men are more likely to keep it bottled up until they "blow up", other people say men are a more "violent" sex and women are "scared" to go through with the suicide.
