i think this depends on the atmosphere of the bar/pub in general. if it's a rough crowd and there is a steady need for a bouncer then there is one... why would you use a band-aid if there was no cut?...... duh, at 28 you should know better then to ask a silly question like this one.

I was a bouncer at a pub back in 1998. I think it really depends on where they are located and the history of trouble that they had. The pub where I worked didn't have one when I first started going there. There was actually some trouble while I was up there drinking one night and I kicked the guy out that was giving one of the waitresses some trouble. They asked me if I wanted to work the door up there, and I said sure, I come up here anyways. I worked up there for 4 years till I got sick of dealing with drunk people, now I don't even go out that much any more.

A responsible owner of an establishment will place a man at the door for a few reasons,,,The main one is , if a minor DOES happen to get in and somehow gets busted,,,the owner can hold the bouncer responsible instead of the establishment (scapegoat),,,,,another is for the security purposes,,,,But don't be fooled,,,again ,,,,its a smart owner,,,,,With a guy at the door,,,,his insurance rates will be reduced dramatically,,,,,,then the minor reasons,,,,looks upscale,,,,fights,,,,,escorts to cars for women,,,,etc

I think that we know have security and bouncers nearly everywhere alcohol and potential fights/ inappropriate behaviour may be a problem, i see it as a control measure, it is probably law now to avoid a litigiuos situtation
