when anyone with any intelligence or knowledge of history should know that the idea of hell being a literal place was made up by the catholic church in order to scare the masses into being under their control?

Because they can't let go of their "precioussssss." (in other words: bible) But also, they do not realize that maybe this "heaven" and "hell" is here on earth. Heaven is the places we adore, that makes us feel infinite and all of those good things. Hell are those places we try to avoid because of fear. Just a thought..

how secure are you in the fact that it does not exist?
"even the church teaches that revalations is all metaphor, so how can you take literal interpretations from it?"
my church doesn't teach that revelations is all metaphor. i can't say mine is correct and yours is incorrect, but you can't either. It's really subjective to how you interpret the Bible

Made up by the church.. I don't think so the concept in New Testament from the era of John the Apostle. The idea is written in His Gospel and in the Revelation.. Now is the concept literal.. who cares. It's still separation from God and that isn't the best thing that could happen anyway....Jim

People go to the cemetery when they die. One can only hope they can be resurrected. Without the body alive, the person can't exist. Paradise is on the New Earth and annihilation of the old earth and all those who were enslaved by an attitude of no value for life is what the bible calls "hell". Sodom and Gomorrah was burned with eternal fire, but it's gone now, isn't it?

I believe the Holy Bible. I don't know what the Catholics tell their masses...
Slamming people for their intelligence and knowledge levels based on their beliefs is foolish. Look at you...
You don't believe it and the Holy Bible has been proven to be true with additional historical documents.
Anyone that has tried to discredit the Holy Bible...is now a Christian.
May you find the grace of the living God and His Son Jesus!

These are the same people that believe:
A) There's an invisible man in the sky
B) Said invisible man has super powers
C) The universe is 7,000 years old
D) A 600 year old drunk built a huge boat with his sons and then put two of each animal on it (except for dinosaurs of course) and then sailed the around during a great flood.
E) These people from the arc then had incest time and time again to repopulate the world.
Can you really expect much from them?

While your position on this thought is mostly true, I think that there is purgotory, atleast, a place where you can learn what wrongs you did and how they affected other peoples lives forever. If not, there must be a personal Hell of some sort, or Earth could be Hell.

Don't forget the fact that the church scored double points by taking the person-hood of a female diety and turning her into a place of evil

I believe in the budhist theory that there is no hell. Our hell is reincarnation to a life of the upmost disgrace such as a cow, dog or cat. Budhist believe that if you live a sinful life you will come back reincarnated in one of these forms and if you lived a good life with little to no sin you will go to "heaven".

I think (just me) that's it's because the bible say's there is such a place..I do believe that...I know many don't...it's okay with me..I have come to the place where I can actually accept the fact where I know people think differently than me.
