A radiologist is a physician who specializes in diagnostic and/or therapeutic use of radiation.

First of all, you would need to be doing well in college, get accepted to a medical school, do well there and then do an internship and residency in a department of radiology.

If you want to go into diagnostic radiology, your personal skills would include a keen vision and the ability to see minor changes. These observational skills would be analogous to those needed to be a representational artist able to draw what you see so others can see it too. Of course, it's not the drawing that is as important as is the clear vision and ability to interpret what you see that is important.

To be a therapeutic radiologist, you will need keen mathematical skills to determine radiation doses and good three dimensional reasoning skills to orient therapeutic radiation devices.

I hope this overview is useful to you.

While you prepare for this future career as a radiologist, you might consider working as a radiology aide or technician. This way you can see how it is done and you will have lots of opportunities to ask questions that can help you decide if this is the career for you.

The answers above are really good, but you would also have to have a good work ethic, it requires long hours, good vision, ability to work nights, weekends and/or days. Must also be able to take call. I worked for a group of 5 radiologists and they took turns taking call. If the er has something at 3 am you have to get up and go there to view it unless it is computerized and downloadable to your home pc. A good radiologist needs to have a good bedside manner. I have seen the ones I worked for have to deliver bad news professionally and other hard to deal with situations.

You have to go to medical school and become an MD. Radiology would be the specialty you pick while interning. If you meant a radiology technician then you can get an associate degree for that. As far as personal requirements for both....intelligence,an aptitude for science, especially those dealing with the human body, patience and being detail oriented.
