Like a couple of the others, clip their wings. See or have someone show you how to do it. It's really simple. They don't feel it just like if we clip our fingernails. I used to do it all the time. Spreading one wing at a time clipping on an angle. If the bird is skiddish you may have to cover her/his eyes. The clipping also trains them in an easier way. Hope this helps. I got my last parakeet so tame that she let me scratch her neck like a cat likes, she mimicked my whistle(the wolf whistle) she would fly to my finger from across the room, stay on my shoulder while I walked around. She even ate with me. She loved bacon and chips. I don't have her(Nikki) anymore. I found out that parakeets brains are the size of a pin head. Not much, huh but they are smart. When I was a little girl we had a blue one that drank my dad's beer. He, Topper, would sit on his glass and have at it!

Theres not really a way to teach him to not hit the walls. You will have to clip his wings. Its a big saftey issue with birds. Especially keets. They are so small one smash into a wall could break a bone or worse...snap its neck. If you dont know how to clip bird wings I wouldnt try it on your own. Take him to your vet and have them do it. You can watch so if you feel comfortable the next time you can do it. Now he will still be able to fly a bit but it will be real low to the ground and not very fast. Its way better. Good luck!

You can't. But you can have the birds wing feathers clipped for safety. When you let the bird out, it naturally wants to fly, and keets are tiny-one good head butt into the wall and he could die. Ask your vet to show you how to do it the right way.

hihihi.. try tying a piece of string to your parakeet ankle (leg), when your parakeet aim for the wall, you pull the piece of string.. so it won't hit the wall!! =) try not pulling too hard on the string though, or else, you'll have a pirate parakeet. =)

My parakeet did that all the time until I put a big branch in my room to land on. She loves it.
