i read an artical that said during the last 15 days or so before a women has her period, she becomes more interested in guys with "good" genes. meaning bad boys, handsome guys, etc.. After the period, she's more interested in the "good dad" type. is this true?

yes, it's biological. during ovulation, we women would like to have sex with the best looking guy with the best physical assets---it will ensure the propagation of the good genes.

when not ovulating, we have more common sense---so we tend to settle for the nerdy, homely type who has money to provide. and we like to flatter ourselves that we 'care' for personality and good-heartedness instead of good looks and money.

No, we dont change who we like because of our hormones. I'm just more horny at different times of the month. And since when does being a bad boy equal good genes ??
