I was told that it is not good for them. if it is made for a dog, dogs are muchlarger than cats and there for it may have too much fat or something in it. I guess a little will not hurt but as its main food- i wouldn't. I would feed it what scientists have discovered works best for cats- CAT FOOD=)

Taurine is an essential amino acid for the cat. Dogs and people can make the taurine with their own bodies, cats can't.
Veterinarians didn't know this for almost fifteen years. Cats were going blind and also having serious heart problems because of the taurine deficiency.
Now it is added to all commercial cat food. When are the veterinarians going to come to the conclusion that corn in the diet is causing an epidemic of obesity in cats? Another fifteen years?
Raw meat is the natural diet for a cat. They are obligate carnivores, not like dogs who, like us, are omnivorous.

I remember when I had my 3 cats, I was told by my vet not to feed them dog food. They are *NOT* the same animals, and the trace elements are not the same in the prepared foods that are made for them. From Pet Education.com:
"As we often say, "Cats are not small dogs." In the case of diet, it is important to realize a cat's nutritional requirements are much different than those of a dog. For example, cats require higher levels of protein than dogs. "
There is more information at the site below. It does mention some of the nutritional deficiencies that may occur if you allow your cat to eat dog food. Hope this answers your question!

My cats and my dog have always shared their food...
I sometimes buy cat food, and sometimes dog food, and none of them seem to complain or turn up their noses at either!
Once in a while I'll give them a treat... a tin of "human food"...usually tuna fish...and they all love that...even the dog!

Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements. Their foods might look similar but they're not. Best to keep kitties on kitty food, for proper health.

it might be ok but your cat might not get much nutrition from the dog food because it doesn't have the right stuff in it for a cat to thive.if your cat does well with the dog good for you and your cat but if not SEE A VET!!!!!!!!!!

NO. do not let your cats eat dog food. it lacks the proper nutrients that cats need and can cause them to go blind.
all these people are saying they let their cats eat dog food all the time; the thing about cats is that you dont notice that they are going blind until its too late. nice going.
