There could be many reasons for this behaviour. This behaviour could be caused by hormones in her body if she is not spayed. Does she hump her bedding a lot or only now and then. I would suggest getting her spayed if you havent already. The behaviour could also be one she has picked up or learnt from somewhere. The trick to stopping her is to make sure when she does it to stop her and pull her away from the bedding and if she stays away give her praise or a small treat. She will slowly learn that what she is doing is not good and will stop. Hope this is helpful.

Its a difficult habit ti break, you need to distract her with a sharp noise, such as pebbles in a plastic bottle; then straight away give her something else to do. Dogs tend to get into this habit when they're bored.
Try changing the type of bed she has, so there is no loose bedding.

Is the bedding new or is it a hand me down? If it used before she could be smelling the previous owner and is asserting herself. Also has she been Spayed? If not it might be hormonal. I would suggest washing her bedding in warm water with napisan . if that doesn't work buy a spray bottle add juice of one lemon mix with water and spray her everyday you catch her, this should discourage her.

If you teach her the sit-stay command, you can give the command every time she exhibits this behavior..She will soon tire of being interrupted with a command, every time she is relieving her stresses..
In her case, it sounds most like a stress reliever..
Also, just the act of teaching obedience commands (yes, even at her age) will promote a bonding, and general contentment..as you are behaving in a nurturing .motherly way when you teach new things..If you need tips for teaching the sit-stay, or other basic tasks, just email me..
Humping objects is more often a stress reliever, than dominance or sexuality..

I think that's how it is for your Spaniel. My little rat dog does the same humping thing at night before she goes to sleep. I think it's because the animals were spade too young.

My 3year old cavalier has always done it when she is in season, also any-ones arm will do as well! The vet said there was nothing we could do about, as some dogs are just prone to doing this

Hmmm. That's a new one on me. Perhaps she feels the need to assert dominance on her bedding...if she isn't spayed that could also be caused by hormones.

Atleast its only the bedding. My female dog keeps trying it on with our Tom cat.
I'm not sure you can stop her, its natural.

She is trying to dominate her surroundings. It has nothing to do with sex. When she has 'marked' everything as being less important than she is, she should calm down.
