When dogs are too warm, or stressed, they need to pant, (breath through their mouth) in order to cool down, or get enough oxygen.. that is why the vet asked the man to loosen the muzzle, so the dog could pant better..
If you are running very fast, you have to open your mouth to breath in enough air..right? same thing for dogs when they need to get more air..

My dog has no nose.
How does it smell?
Awful.
It would be a complete waste of an organ if they couldn't smell through there nose, nature isn't that wasteful to give it nose which it couldn't use to smell.

Of course that's where they can smell, and the only place. They don't have other places with scent sensing nerves.
Did you know that a dog's nostrils are sort of slitted on the sides so that when theey breathe and smell, incoming air won't be misxed with exhaled air? Exhaled air flows out the slits on the sides.

They smell with their noses. Just look at how a bloodhound finds a trail. They also have "scent glands" in their feet but that is used to mark things with their scent.... not sniffing.

Hmmm...I agree with Dakota...paw pads leave a scent of "Hey, I have been here!" And dogs ALL smell through their noses.

Dogs smell thru their noses. Trust me. As for the sent pads on their feet, they are not for smelling they are for leaving a scent, like when they mark their territory.

Nonsense. They smell very well through their noses, better than you or me by a long shot.
