it is very expensive, so many things have to be imported

Hawaii is expensive. We lived there for a while.
The plane tickets are about $800 a piece depending on where you are traveling from. The hotels range from about 100 on up
There are so many things you can do for cheap or free there though if the beach is your sceen.

Hawaii is cheap.
I moved here with $250.00 and a small backpack. I worked for minimum wage for years and lived right in Waikiki about a block away from the ocean. It's cheaper than Denver anyway.

IJust got back this summer-was there 1 full year! The prices are truly outragious! Unless your on a military base for your grocery essentials, you will pay out the yazooo!!!!!

2000 on airline tickets
139.00 resort (we traded our time share)
meals- skipped breakfast
20.00 lunch
40-60 dinner (no alcohol)
siteseeing- Pearl Harbor tour 160.00 for both of us
snorkling- 90.00 a piece
dinner cruise- 65.00 a piece
biking down a volcano - 65.00 a piece
spending money= 4000.00
It all depends on what you want to do, what you want to buy, and how well you want to eat.
I'd say overall between 6000-8000 dollars
A Hawaiian cruise might be cheaper.
