It's called Murphy's Law- If something bad can happen, than it most likely will.
However I don't buy into this law, so I can usually find batteries when I need them. It actually has everything to do with your conscious perception of your relationship to all. Not that you would believe me unless you became personally aware and observant of this phenomena first hand. Plus I invested in a bunch of rechargables a few years ago, haha.
