you should tell him that if he wants to get into a good college he HAS to study and keep his grades up. other wise, he will end up in a community college or even none. Be more strict on him, for ex. he cant go out until he gets his hw done, or that you have seen him studying.

I understand you have to work, but nothing replaces your presence. I don't think a letter will accomplish much
