Blue smarties were replaced in 2006 with white by Nestle UK due to the removal of all artificial colours from Smarties. As there was no naturally blue food colour, they could no longer be produced under the new policy

A report came out claiming that a man who had eaten nothing but blue smarties for a week had died. Nestle decided that they did not want any further bad press and consequently took painstakingly removed all of the blue smarties.

Smarties are now promoting that they have no additives or colourants & the blue ones were full of both - another healthy kids campaign

A friend of mine asked me this the other day. I'm pretty sure there are some dyes / food colorants that were used in smarties that were either banned or judged to be potentially harmful.

bcos smarties want 2 sell more, 2 do this they make themselves apear more healthy, blue smarties had the most E numbers thats y they sent kids hyper. they hope 2 sell more basically,

because blue smarties contained artificial colourings. smarties no longer contain artifical colourings or flavourings.

Becasue the tartrazine required to give them the blue colour proved to make kids hyperactive; so now we've got purple ones instead, which can be made with natural colouring.

They got rid of them because they don't know how to create a blue colour without using artificial colourings.
