It was because I had used a person's 'answers ID' in the question. Even though I was trying to be nice and make them feel better because they seemed down. So it's against the rules to be nice? Oh no!

The citations aren't based on right and wrong but on a random sampling of frivolous complaints and coin flipping.

Without knowing what the 'question' was....

I'm inclined to agree that it probably seemed like "chatting" to whoever reported and whoever removed. That isn't what the site is for, and if people fill it with messages to individuals, it will crowd out the stuff that this service IS for.

Ditto if you were dinged for "not a question." The Reason should have appeared in the notice. Either way, you weren't dinged for "being nice."

If you click on someone's ID, you go to their page, and, if they've given permission for it, you can email them a note, or chat with them.

Don't take it to heart. I guess that is technically against the rules, but what happened is that someone reported you. Since it is technically against their rules, they sent you that notice.

But be assured that they will not suspend your account for little things like that. There really are people behind this, and they'll suit the punishment to the crime.

Oh goodness, who knows why Yahoo hands out their "punishments" as they do... I got a "violation" on an answer that I KNOW for a fact didn't have one TOS violating word or sentement in it. People report whatever they don't fancy and Yahoo sometimes just says "eh, don't wanna pay attention, sure it's a violation, why not".

Sounds like you need to take it up w/ Yahoo answers and have them show you the err of your ways so both sides can understand what is going on.

a_delphic_oracle im sure yahoo in all its infinite knowledge had a perfectly good and well discussed reason for your citation. Just hang in their and pledge your total submission to yahoo like the rest of us.

People report people all the time. I wouldn't take it personally. I've had many reports made of me. You're not going to be banned or anything.

That's a new on one me as well. I didn't know you could get in trouble for that.
I guess I'll have to be on guard from now on.
Do you have any idea who reported you?

I have gotten them for prayer requests and for polite questions. I suspect that if a certain number complain they are automatic. Peace Be With You.

You probably did this by posting a "question" right?

"NO CHATTING OR PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS"

It's in big, bold type right in the community guidelines.
