Always hated it too.

I've always rather it taken from my arm. There is a completely different pain and feeling. The end of your finger is much more sensitive and it is a dull aching pain. Your arm on the other hand is somewhat relieving. I actually like the small rush I get from the needle in my arm. No, I ain't crazy or self mutilating but it is a little healthy rush. I like tattoos as well, same little rush but lasts longer. Fingers are probably quicker and less costly to the clinic or hospital just to get a blood sample and that's why they do it. Now I know some people like my father who are guitar players, cannot get "pricked" b/c their fingers are to calloused for the needle to penetrate.

if you are checking hemoglobin, or glucose levels it provides a small bead of blood-all you need, but for a CBC, I can't imagine why your finger. Usually I only poke fingers for heroine users, neonates, or dehydrated people. Even a butterfly needle is invasive in a finger. You musta had a mean nurse.

Taking blood from the end of your finger, there are alot of nerve endings from your tips. Use your arm when you can, especially if you are a diabetic and testing regular.
