he told me all that behaviour was MY fault for upsetting him. i feel so angry for putting up with it .but i don't think i ever really got the message across to him at the time. i wish he could learn that the relationship ended because of his bad behaviour. how can i make him realise?

I'd go with "very carefully." Seriously... if he blamed you and was verbally (or even physically) abusive, then just tell him he has "anger management" issues, and you're just not going to put up with it any longer. Be direct, and then leave it there. If you dumped him, you don't owe him any more explanation.

I've never had this problem with a girlfriend but I stopped hanging out with a friend of mine because he was a "know-it-all" and wanted to argue all the time and throw temper tantrums. It is a sign of immaturity and a lack of social graces. Unfortunately you may have to deal without him realizing it because he is too immature to handle it. A life of loneliness and misery will probably teach him this lesson. As for you, count your blessings and move on.

Rather as a sort of notification than some mutually-worked out thing. In the vast majority, there's no sense in making such people sensible. Above all, make it clear from your approach that you are not to blame for anything, that you gave it your best and that you don't have to answer to him - and finally, that if he thinks otherwise, ... "who cares?"

Stop talking to this person immediately.

He sounds like the type of person who can't listen to reason and will argue his point even if it is clearly wrong to everyone else. We've all known this person. You can't MAKE them see your side...why try?

Nothing good will come from you throwing blame on the dude, regardless of how much better it makes you feel.

Tell him that he was an *** and that he will suffer for it in the future with other women. That will knock his confidence a bit and perhaps won't be that cocky and and arrogant in the future.
But to be honest I wouldn't even bother justifying the situation to him. If its over, then it is just that.

All you can do is straight up tell him. But, men will deny it until the day they die.
