Miss Niki why Hindu worship cow, there are few reasons,no 1.cow give milk which is very healthy specially for children and for sick people,so they called with respect as mother. No 2.why it's Hindus worship, this was neat and clean animal and Lord Krishna was take ca er of cows in his childhood hood, that was the re son cow became holy.3rd you said if you hit cow even by accident they put you in jail, which is not correct, there is also low and order and they see what were the circumstances, not you have just hit a cow.

"In the Hindu Vedas of India, the killing of the cow/bull was prohibited. It was recognized as a Sacred Animal Totem of the Hindus.

A gentle loving animal, the cow has unselfishly provided humanity with sustenance in the form of milk and milk products like cheese for millenium.

The majority of the people on this planet including the Hindus have the Cow/Bull as an Animal Totem. To harm one's Animal Totem by slaughtering it for food or any other reason whatsoever brings on great misfortune, according to the karmic cycles of cause and affect." quote from the first source link.

So basically the cow represents all sorts of sacrifice and giving that are considered sacred to the Hindu. Therefore the cow is a sacred animal to the Hindu.

That was found by doing a quick google search of hindu cow.

No. Cows are not worshipped, though they are considered holy. And killing one is a sin. Even Hindus who are not vegetarian, often stay away from beef, just as Muslims stay away from pork, albeit for opposit reason. Muslims don't eat pork cos they think pigs are unholy, and for Hindus, cows are too holy to be killed for food.

Cows are holy in hindu society ( Comes from being a non-mechanised agarian, rural economy for millennia. Cows give food(milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter/ghee), fuel ( all that bull ****), Help hoe the ground before sowing seeds ( Now of course, tractors have managed to penetrate into rural India)leather when they are gone( Mind you, old cows are rarely treated with the respect they should be getting, reminds me of "Boxer" in Animal Farm who was sold the moment he was of no use to the farm. India is a major producer of leather).

Wikipedia says..
"........................

Those Hindus who do eat meat (usually chicken, goat and fish) predominantly abstain from beef. Some even avoid the use of cow's leather products. This is possibly because the largely pastoral Vedic people, and subsequent generations, relied so heavily on the cow for milk and dairy products, tilling of fields and fuel for fertilizer, that its status as a 'caretaker' led to identifying it as an almost maternal figure (hence the term gau mata, or Cow Mother). While most contemporary Hindus do not actually worship the cow (though many venerate her), it still holds an honored place in Hindu society — as the best representative of the benevolence of all animals on man. There exists a legal ban against cow-slaughter in almost all states of the Indian Union[citation needed], however over 30,000 illegal slaughterhouses run in India. [citation needed] In Kerala and Bengal, consumption of beef by Hindus is much more widespread, due to the Communist influence in these areas. [citation needed]

So as it is, killing a cow used to be, in olden days, a crime against the society, as well as a serious sin that could lead to excommunication. The first roti every day(Bread from wheat flour) is supposed to be made for the cow.

officially I dont know

one Hindu told me that they thought a cow was the closest creature to god

practically speaking, if they werent protected they would probably be slaughtered awful fast

hard to say

in reality there are so many gods in hinduism many many animals depict god, this is tough to take for a theist who does not like idols to see the elephant god, etc etc...

the danger is that people often make God substitutes and being religoius might make a block against seeing the true GodThis is not a Hindu problem, idols and false imaginations of God are an every person problem

terrorists might make God out to be overly vengful and callous and might be settign up an idol in their hearts without knowing it which may be even worse

We should all worship cows. Think about everything the cow does for us....food, clothing, work. They deserve a little respect.

because its the sacred animal.... hindus respect them because of some mythylogical story..... but you don't go to jail for hitting them as long as you don't kill them. every religion worships something then whats wrong with the cows....they give us all the dairy products.

don't think they actually worship the cow, though they are part of their religious history. it's just that they deeply respect that species due to the fact that they depend on them so much. they honor them but don't actually worship them.
