I'm gonna be on vacation in Europe for 3 weeks, moving to different cities every 4 days. I will have access to my friend's apt about midway through the trip and she has a washing machine there. That takes care of washing my jeans, but how do I dry them? Jeans usually take 2 days to hang dry and if I put them in the clothes dryer they'll shrink and won't fit.

Any suggestions or tidbits of experience?

Laundry shops are not as famous here in Europe, unless you are in a city with many students. Also, clothes dryers are almost completely absent, especially from sunny countries (e.g. mediterranean ones). Take some rope with you to make an impromptu hanger and some clothes cleaning product for washing by hand. Fill in the sink of your hotel/room with warm water, dissolve some washing dust (or whatever you use) and try washing your jeans in there then hung them in the imprompty hanger made by rope.

Can't think of a better solution, unless you take more clothes so that you don't have to wash them....

Make sure you give them plenty of time to dry by washing them well in advance and taking lots of clothes. A dryer on a coolish heat shouldn't shrink them, it will just take longer. If there is an airing cupboard, hang them on a hanger and then hang them in there. You will find hanging them from a curtain pole dries them fairly quickly too even if it is raining. Just leave the window open a bit and although the air won't be bone dry, it should have them wearable in the morning. A final iron after you have done these things should evaoprate off the last of the moisture too.

The dryer will temporarily "shrink" your jeans, but after you have them on for about an hour, they'll go back to normal and they'll feel good again. And if they're too small to put on once you put them in the shower, you should get a bigger size.

I have never had my jeans shrink in the dryer even when it's on high! If you are afraid of them shrinking, buy a size too that's too big for you, wash them and dry them in the dryer BEFORE you leave. After they shrink once, they should not shrink again. Hope this proves helpful!

Take a coathanger with clips on it, spin the jeans hard then peg them to the hangar and hang in an open doorway overnight. Air all round will have them dry by morning. We do this all the time

If it is hot out, hang them outside. You could always break out a hair dryer and dry the jeans that way.

DO NOT BRING JEANS!! You're right, they take far too long to dry. Take some lighterweight fabrics, like Khaki's, or cotton, which still look great, but will travel better.

Trust me on this... the jeans may look great, but you will come to hate them if you're carrying a wet pair around in your pack.

My wife took her jeans to a cleaner in Paris. They charged us $18 (in 2000) to wash them! At least they came back dry

You only own a pair of jeans??? Gosh dude~ Go & buy another 1. Then you don't have to worry on how to wash your jeans during your vacation.

don't take jeans, take something that will dry easily like khaki's. If it is humid they won't dry at all hang drying. Trust me. Plus Khakis or cotton like pants don't weigh as much in packing.
