Have a routine around bed time and stick to it.

Excercise, but not right before bed.

Avoid caffeine, it has a long half life so none after lunch.

Get into a very hot tub (or an actual hot tub) about a half hour before bed. It raises your core body temperature. When you get out, prepare to go pretty quickly to bed. About 20 minutes after you are out of the tub and your core body temperature drops, it triggers a natural sleep mechanism in the body. If you fight it off, you will just be able to resist it and go on being awake, but if you are in bed and ready and willing to sleep and just go with the feeling, this will work for you every time.

people swear by warm milk...
I never tried it though.. the thought of warm milk makes me gag.

Chamomile tea is a great relaxer.

I prefer a half bottle of cabernet sauvignon, but the experts say that is not advisable.

also you may like the idea because it is a "pill " but the all natural supplement; Melatonin, works really well for many people. For me, I tried it and I slept soundly and deeply, but would wake up bright eyed and ready for work only it would be about 4 AM!

Also, exercise really does help as the previous poster suggested.

Exercise on a regular basis, and eat a balanced diet. If you have trouble sleeping, get up and so something for a little while and then try again. If this doesn't work for you, some places sell self-hypnosis tapes that will knock you out within minutes. You'll wake up well rested.

Start limiting caffiene stop drinking it like 3 hours before you want to sleep! Excercise more but don't excersise 3 hours before you want to sleep.
There are relaxing sprays for your pillows and such you can get with lavendar. I would try that.

Is your bed old? Do you consume caffeine and sugar in the evenings? These things can affect the quality of your sleep.
