Ok, for like the past three weeks I've had horrible lips. They really hurt. I've been even getting blisters on them. Could this have something to do with my health? I've had a bad UTI and it spread to my kidneys....so, does that have anything to do with it? I've got my kidneys under control, its just my lips now. I keep carmex and vaseline on them but they are dried out again within 5 minutes. Its unbelievable. So, any advice? Thanks!

Throw away the Carmex and Vaseline. Buy the original 'Chap Stick'. I keep them everywhere. I put it on my lips before I go to bed at night. Also, since you're recovering from a UTI, you need to rehydrate yourself and flush out your kidneys. Drink plenty of water and your lips will return to their normal state.

Good Luck@@@

It may very well have to do with your kidneys, but perhaps not. I believe Lupus, which is a condition that affects the kidneys can have an effect on the mucous membranes of the lips, but also can make you much more susceptible to other infections. Viruses attack when the body's defenses are compromised, and it may be a herpes simplex virus, which is aggravated by stress. Herpicin lip balm is over the counter, but you may need a prescription for something stronger, even to go on valtrex for a few days.

Also, you may just be lacking in certain vitamins, like D and E. Take a multivitamin, and although I am partial to strawberry chap stick, whichever balm you use, don't share a balm with or from anyone else. Also, hydrate, and do NOT lick your lips. It dries them out.

Increase your water intake, avoid salt, alcohol, and smoking. Good luck and feel better.

any time you have an infection, your immune system is compromised, so yes, the UTI could be a root cause for the condition of your lips. However, I suspect also that you are not drinking nearly enough water...a common cause of UTIs by the way, and need to hydrate yourself. I suggest you start drinking at least two liters of water every 24 hours.
The best balm for the lips that I have found is made by Burt's Bees, can be found in most health food stores and some drug stores.

My lips dries up and hurts if I don't use something on it constantly. I use a night treatment of petroleum jelly, applied just before I go to bed. In the morning when you wake up you'll notice all the dry skin has surfaced and you can wipe it off. Plus your lips looks refreshed, very pink and plump. But it doesn't stop there, you need to moisturize during the day, I use palmers cocoa butter lip balm, works wonders. You need to keep your lips constantly moisturized. Good luck.

i use to do that too sooo it cant be from ur kidneys, i told my doctor and he gave me these pills that i can refill any time and i just take 3 of them when i see some blisters about to come all the way up!!! he also told me to get some abreve to use before a blister comes up!!! what ever you do dont touch the blister and then touch somewhere else on your face or it will spread!!! i know from experience!!!! wash your hands immediatly after touching a blister!!! I dont know what to do to keep them from drying since i use carmex, but if you ask your doctor then he will give you something!!!

I agree with everyone else, Burts Bees works really well. Also make sure you drink lots of water. That will help wash out the infection and you could be deydrated

Take a high potency multivitamin with minerals and EFA Complete as directed (swansonvitamins.com) or equivalent EFA product. An antioxidant combo wouldn't hurt either.
