It's not that sneezing is contagious like yawns (you don't sneeze when you see someone do it on TV!); it's what's in the air that makes people sneeze, whether it's dust, pollen or cold germs. A lot of people sneeze at the same time, because they're breathing the same irritant, whatever it may be.

I never noticed sneezes being contagious, but yawns and even coughs are contagious.
If there is alot of dust in the air, maybe it makes more than one person sneeze. Or if it is sunny, cause alot of people seem to sneeze in the sunshine.

Sneezes, in and of themselves, are not necessarily contagious. For instance if you get a bit of dust up your nose, the irritation causes you to sneeze, no big deal. However, if you have a virus that is causing the irritation, the sneeze, because it spreads and aerosolizes the mucous in your nose, and it is infected with the virus, then you spread the virus by sneezing. It is always a good idea to use kleenex, and wash your hands after every episode of sneezing, infected or not, because it then becomes a good health habit.
