I call my kids grasshopper when I want to teach them something, such as a life lesson. It's a throwback from the old Kun Fu TV show starring David Carradine. To me, it's a gentle name, meant in a loving way. Don't take offense.

Can this be referring to the Karate Kid movie? The main character was often called "young grasshopper" because he was inexperienced and needed to be taught.

In either an old kung fu movie or kung fu show the elder master would be teaching the young student what the master knows, and they named him grasshopper. Youg and new.

lol..think it relates to chinese culture.. usually in movies a Wise old man will be teaching a young kid, and call him "grass hopper"... like a new, fresh, innocent mind.
