I have; I once got so into a book that I completely zoned out and forgot the whole English language. I just sat in my chair thinking, "What is this? A table? Yeah, a tabale!" It was...well, odd.

I had outpatient surgery and they put me in a "twilight sleep" where I was not really awake but I was not totally asleep either. I was comfortably numb then.
