Honestly. I have been given various, so called addictive, painkillers. Once the dentist gave me percaset. That is when I found out what it feels like to be sea sick. I was soooo sick.
Another time I was given Morphine by the military doctor. I thought there where ants crawling all over me. Ever see a grown man stand up in a hospital bed? Well, they had give me some kind of shot to stop the “ants”. I don’t remember anything after that.
Recently I was given vicodin for my ear infection. The effect is much like the percaset. I get sick just thinking about it.
Even when I take over the counter meds. I usually have to take only half what the dosage says.
How can people use this stuff every day? I have known a lot of recreational drug users from my HS. Most were hard pressed to be D students, and were sick regularly. How can people live like that?

I used to think that maybe if I assocated teh drug with making the pain go away, I would then become dependant on the drug to not have the pain.

Thankfully I am almost healed. I think I can handle the pain better than the "sick to my stomach" feeling.

Different people respond to certain medications differently. I have much the same reaction to Vicodin that you had, but I know people who have taken it and said that it helped them with their pain a great deal. There are a number of painkillers available, so say something to your doctor about it.
Addiction is a chemical thing. The brain starts to rebel when it doesn't get some of the stuff and it's used to getting it. So it's not surprising that some people have brains to outright reject the stuff when it's offered.

Sometimes, I think that drug addiction starts with other things, such as cigarettes, pot, driving fast...Addictive personalities run in my family, so I have made it a point to not smoke and if I do have a drink, it's maybe twice a year. Different medications make me terribly ill. I believe that people have different tolerances for certain things. What may be making you sick to your stomach may make the next person crave more.

That is what they like. They like to be totally wasted without a care in the world. I personally do not mind when my dentist prescribes me Vicodin, but I could not take more than a couple because otherwise I feel sick too and I could never take it regularly, makes me too damned stupid. But hey, this is America, live and let live!

It's called a disease. People start off with much better effects from these drugs and the problem gets out of control. Not everyone has the same reaction you did to them. Everyone has different levels of serotonin in their brain. Those who lack serotonin regulation, tend to have addiction problems.

A nurse once told me if you are in real pain, you won't get addicted. When you abuse them or keep taking them you will be. I think some people are also more prone to addictions.

It's genetic. People who have members of their family that are addicted to things have a higher risk of being addicted to something, like drugs, or alcohol.

They enjoy that "sick" feeling...
then they are hooked.... *shrug* don't ask me why they would use a drug they know they will get hooked on.

its called dependency....
they use it to try to overcome a state (or a problem)
and everytime they do have problems they use it.
aside from the fact that withdrawal symptoms are similarly bad.
