If this was a "rescue" it would have been to a vet.
No a limp is not normal.
I have rescued dogs with broken legs that were never treated that will have crooked legs and limps. They can also pull ligaments and muscles. Check for any knots where there may be an infection
Do you have any history on the dog? You apparently got it from someone you know??

It could be from an injury which wasn't treated and therefore didn't heal correctly. Can you see any lumps, does it look twisted or not quite right anywhere? This dog is only 2 so it shouldn't be arthritis, so I'd say the best guess is an injury.
You say the vet is looking into it - so didn't he take x-rays? If they don't show anything, have the vet keep checking into it. Is he in pain? If so, the vet needs to prescribe something for him - he's only 2, he can't stay like that.

There could be a lot of answers to the question - are his nails excessively long? That can change his gait. It could be that he is favoring it due to a bruise, twist, or sprain. Another possibility is an insect sting on the foot - check for stingers - or a small pebble between his pads. All that being said, no limp is normal - there had to be some kind of injury at some point in time - and only your vet can answer the question for you.

My dog has kinda the same thing. If when he gets up from a nap or sleeping and is limping, then its when the musles tighted up from sleeping on it.
