Panasonic DMC-LZ2
around $250 now, and has done all that I wanted, and then some.
To Jeannie G - MOST is a dangerous word, sometimes, as in this instance --- pros do not necessarily go for 'canon' --- they buy whatever does the best job, for the specific job they are doing. . . case in point ---
I am a professional using a Panasonic . . . end of statement.

Here is what Consumer Reports suggests.
Best value for most people; a CR Best Buy:
• Canon PowerShot A520 , $160, CR Best Buy
This has excellent print quality and battery life, manual controls, and AA batteries. It also has 4-megapixel resolution and a 4X optical zoom, but has a small LCD and limited time for each video recording.

I think the first question is what do you plan to use this camera? Will you be printing pictures? You must answer these questions and others before deciding on what camera and what options you will need in a camera.

I stick to Canon simply because I am familiar with their controls. I believe in picture quality and quite often you get what you pay for. Powershot S series give fantastic results. Make sure you get a camera with a video mode and photostitch facility. They always come in handy. Rechargeable battery is a must.

i got a samsung black and silver camera it was only 115 dollars, i think its an a300 or something. the only thing that sucks about it is you have to buy a lot of batteries so it would be good to invest in some rechargeable batteries
