I want to back them up as I need to uninstall outlook as I can not open the program. Are they only stored in the .pst files?

If you have only one Personal Folders (i.e. only one folder named Inbox) which 99%+ people have then you will only have one .pst file, which contains all your emails, contacts, calendar etc.

Correct. Outlook email is only stored in files with the pst extension. It is possible to have more than one pst file if you have more that one personal folder. So be sure to double check. If you back up all the pst files, you will have all the email.

Depends if you leave a copy of your messages on your server or not. If you do, anything in your inbox will still be there after you re-install. If not then anything not in a personal folder may be lost.

Some versions of Outlook have a "detect & repair" option under Help, then About. Try that if you can get Outlook to open at all.

Either that, then in add/remove programs in the control panel, Office should give you the option to re-install with a repeat previous installation. That fixes most errors in my experience.

That usually preserves all settings - and messages.

Hope this helps - good luck

In the File menu there is an item called "Data File Management". This shows you your current PSTs and their locations.
