Anonymity? maybe. I think you could be defining it in the sense of donations of $$. Anonymity in that regard is a personal preference, not a criteria. Charity goes far beyond giving cash.

I believe by definition, true charity is doing something, or giving something without expecting something in return.

Can no longer be anonymous because of theft and greed. There is 100 Billion missing in funds sent to New Orleans after Katrina and they are asking Federal Government for 100 Billion More. Shouldn't Mayor Nagin, the Governor, and the Congressmen and Senators from this state account for this money first. Never give without requiring invoicing of what you gave.

there are levels of charity in the jewish tradition.
the highest is that both parties (giver and recipient of charity)
are anonymous to each other.
in the lesser forms they can know each other or
one can know of the other
in either order.
however i would not require that all charity be totally anonymous.
because i wouldn't want to reduce charity given by those who wish credit. i will still take it. for the folks who need the charity.

Yeah, I have and do... I even have donated to a charity in honor of someone who has passed, and had the card about the donation sent to his parents with my name included only as "Donation made by: 'Someone thinking about him' "
