When my grandmother was 27 years old, she decided to devote all of her time to helping other people. she worked at a pre-school in the poorer areas of North Long Beach without pay to help single parents and low income families. Any small amount of money she did get she ending up giving to the preschool to help the children or to the Church. She believed it was God's calling, and she was always happy with her life and never passed up the opportunity to help another person. i believe she is a model christian and i have the utmost respect for what she has accomplished.

nowadays, i see many christians on yahoo answers, such as whynotaskdon, preaching hate and damning others who do not believe in God. yet, i see no kindness to other people. i ask all of you, what makes you think you deserve salvation? what do you do each day to spread God's love?

to those few of you out there:

i understand that noone "deserves" salvation, but i was merely trying to illustrate a point. what have you done for the betterment of humanity?

i have to disagree with you somewhat. you're basically saying "i'm full of sin and theres nothing i can do and theres nothing i will do about it. but as long as i believe in God and Jesus thats ok."

Jesus had a message too!

i also understand that many of you who state things things are good and nice people and i thank all of you for your answers. i am in no way trying to insult you and in fact i agree with your statement that noone deserves salvation....i just don't agree with people who are always doing something hurtful to another person but believe that as long as they go to church every sunday, they will go to heaven.

Let me tell you why I don't deserve salvation. In fact your grandmother doesn't either. As humans we are imperfect. Salvation is a gift from God. Christ died for us because we are undeserving of eternal life. We won't measure up no matter how hard we try. I'm not going to type out a good Samaritan list for myself but I have accepted Christ into my heart and that is why I will have salvation. I do not deserve it but thanks to the love we have from our eternal father I will have it. I agree that some self-proclaiming Christian extremists are not always being the best representatives of Christianity and I get irritated too. I don't blame you but I will disagree with the notion that salvation can be earned. Your grandmother sounds like a great person. You are luck to have such an influence in your life. I'm sure you share what she has taught you with others. It's good to know you guys are out there.

I know that I don't deserve salvation because I'm not perfect. No matter how hard I try I still give in to temptations.

But I believe that living according the the law of LOVE, as Jesus proclaimed, (and a few others!) will bring me closer to that goal, and that practicing compassion and forgiveness toward others (friend OR foe) will earn me God's forgivness on judgement day.

In the meantime I know from experience that beeing kind and forgiving towards others has its own priceless rewards.

Love is the answer - whatever the question!

We DON'T deserve salvation. it's called mercy. It irks at me when I see that. scaring people should NOT be the way we make them believe in God. He's not a hateful God. We're not saved by deeds and what we do to help other people, we're saved by faith, and when we believe in God, we believe in the Bible, and THEN the good stuff we end up WANTING to do is just a side effect of being more like Jesus and living our lives for Him. Spreading God's love is what our lives are for, that's why we're here, because this is just a temporary home, with temporary bodies and lives, and we've got to tell people about eternity, cause it's coming, in one place or the other.

I deserve nothing!! I'm an awful human being with greed, lust and ridicule towards myself and others. But these things I strive everyday to overcome. Whether I hold the door open for someone, or let the old man go in front of the checkout line or give my last $5 to the fireman's boot fund. I slip, I fall, I get back up and ask for God's forgiveness. Some people, like your grandmother, are blessed with a strength like no other. There are some who can do things with an almost seemingly sinless life, and there are those who believe in God and Jesus Christ as their savior but are weaker, but they try everyday and have to realize they are forgiven for the mistakes and not to beat themselves up over it.

I'm the weaker. I deserve hell, not heaven. But by the good grace of God, I will see heaven for my faith is in him. I'm still a work in progress and see myself as a child who is still learning to walk.

No mortal "deserves" to go to Heaven. All mortals are sinners and unworthy to enter into God's presence. No mortal work, no matter how "good" by mortal standards, will earn any one enterance into Heaven... Only those who come to God in The Way He proscribes will enter Heaven...

You will find many who "visit" YA and claim to be "christian" are not... But there are some True Christians makeing honest answers here. That is one of the ways a Christian can act to fulfill our commission from God. But reaching out through YA is not an act to get point to get into Heaven... Honestly answering Honest questions here is a way to share God's Love.

I have not read ALL of the answers made by whynotaskdon... and I have not read over all of his website. But I do not think he is spreading hate... though many who react to his answers are.

You will read little of kindness in most of the threads on YA from the little I have looked at other threads.

I think none of us deserve the salvation of our souls, reasons are obvious, however, we believe in the Jesus sacrifice to clean our sins, that is the only hope which enforce our willing to behave in sanctity, the faith in God and the sincere practice of the 10 commandments have to be bullet proof, I think that must be the remote way to expect our salvation, nevertheless, only God will decide that at our last second of life. Love others in the most intense way, deeply sympathize with the entire humankind, be honest and sincere with your feelings, not thinking in yourself, but your neighbor, and may be God have some pity of your soul.

It is human nature for one to convince others of his or her beliefs, it is fanaticism to shove it down their thrats and pass judgement and provoke fear. Growing up in the Church, I came to understand the messages, the gospels, the faith. However, I also came to understand compassion and understanding. It's not man's place to pass judgement on one's soul. It's not man's place to cause fear and hate simply because they may not understand something. Although there are many different religions, sects, denominations, etc., the message is (usually) the same: Love others as you would have them love you. Fanatics that preach but do not practice really need to evaluate their perspective on their faith and make any necessary changes. It may or may not be their fault, perhaps something they grew up with, but if it conflicts with their faith, then why continue?

It was in the will of God and through His righteousness and His pure grace I a sinner deserved salvation.

I don't deseve it. That's where grace comes in. It's a gift and there is no way to earn it.
We are worth a Son to God.
Jesus Christ is a gift, not marited.

When was Don ever hateful or disrespectful....never seen it.

None of us "deserve" salvation. It is purely by grace, God's unmeritted favor. And I agree with a previous poster, Don tells it like it is, sometimes it is hard truth, but it is truth.
