I believe he died, but not on a cross. The Bible says he died on a tree or wooden stake.
Acts 5:30: "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree."
Acts 10:38,39: "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they[e] killed by hanging on a tree. "
Acts 13:28-30: "And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death. Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb. But God raised Him from the dead. "

I believe that he died on a stauros, but not necessarily a cross. A stauros as used in the New Testament refers to an instrument of torture, basically a stake. Some of them were crosses, but not all of them.

The other word the Bible uses in connection with the torture instrument of Jesus is xylon. The Greek word for wood is Xylo and a xylon is something made of wood. It has been translated in many different ways, since there are many different things made of wood. The King James often translates xylon as tree, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a stake; it simply means that he died on wood because all wood comes from trees. So the words stauros and xylon tell us that he died on a torture instrument made of wood from a tree, but it doesn't tell us whether there was a crosspiece.

The tradition of the cross-shape goes back to shortly after the time of the apostles. There doesn't actually seem to be a good reason to doubt that it was a cross, since crosses were apparently in use at the time and I have not been able to find any thing that would indicate any of the early Christians questioned that it was a cross. However, the Bible doesn't say and since there were a variety of torture instruments used, it's hard to say with certainty whether it was a cross or not.

According to many fundamentalists, the cross was adopted in the third or fourth century as Jesus' death instrument, but that contradicts the facts since the Letter of Barnabas was written long before that and describes it as a cross. .

The value of his sacrifice would not be diminished either way.

It is documented fact that Jesus of Nazareth died on a cross.

A better question would be who all believes Jesus rose from the grave three days later?

vanman hasn't been listening very hard.

It is likely that the character we read about as "Jesus Christ" is not, in fact, a real historical character, but a composite of several "charismatics" who lived about 2000 years ago and spread a sreligion designed to encourage Gentiles to begin titheing to the establish church they way Jews were required to.

There may have been a "Jesus", but he was probably one on several folks crucified around that time.

By the way, there is little evidence that anyone was ever crucified on a "cross-shaped" crucifix the way it has been portrayed since the Middle Ages, Roman crucifixions were typically carried out on a pole or a T-shape structure. The word "cross" appears in the KJV, but it is a mistranslation!

I'm sure alot of people died by crucifixion. Working on the law of averages, there is a good chance that one of them was called Jesus

The translation of the word that many Bible's use for cross actually just means "tree". So all I know is that it was a piece of wood.
