I found several sites on the internet claiming vinegar not only keeps your blood sugar low after eating, but also helps to loose weight. Something about it slowing down the way our body stores carbs. Anybody try it yet??

Vinegar does help, but it isn't very immediate. It's only like 45 calories a month (give or take a little). it does help to cleanse your system though and it also helps with acid reflux and hart burn.

First off is she type 1 diabetic or type 2? If shes type one dont even think about avoiding a doctor because you need one right away for medicine. But if your only type two or your just trying to keep your blood sugars down foods like Eggs, Cheese, Meat, Low Carb Veggies, Tofu, and some crackers have little or no carbohydrates in them those are your best bet. But in the meantime really consider a doctor for your own sake and for your mother. And if her blood sugar is too low get her to drink a 250ml orange juice box wait 10 minutes. If she still feels low give another juice box. This should bring it back up to a regular level. And after 10 more minutes give her some crackers or bread with peanut butter so her blood sugars wont drop down again and will regulate the blood sugar. And as for drinks dont let her have anything naturally sweetened. Let her have water, sugar-free Kool-Aid, Diet soft drinks, try to stay away from Milk. It does have carbohydrates in it so if you drink enough your sugars will go higher. Sugars dont always go down as the day passes. They can just keep going higher and without medicine and insulin there is nothing at all that you can do to bring her sugars down not even exercising will help her. If either of you have jobs you should look into your health benefits to see what diabetic supplies they will cover.

It has something to do with the rate of digestion and thus slowing down the rate at which glucose enters your bloodstream. Anything that helps prevent an "insulin spike" will work, and apparently, vinegar does.
