Looking to get satellite tv for HD programming. My apartment complex doesnt offer digital cable! So basically, is there a difference between the two companies? Any complaints? What about the actual service, are they the same or is one better? Any and all kinds of info would be much help!

There are more HD channels on DISH Network than DirecTV. DISH Network purchased "VOOM" which was a satellite service that offered original high-definition movie channels and HDTV channels with original programming. Both services have the usual HD selection like Discovery HD, ESPNHD, HBO, etc. but picture quality varies between channels.

While neither service uses 100% "HDTV Quality" resolution like digital cable does, DISH Network does actually broadcast its HD channels in higher resolution than DirecTV does and the VOOM HD channels only on DISH Network are the highest resolution of them all.

The cost of systems with DISH Network are less than DirecTV. DISH also has HD DVR (digital video recorder). Depending on your location the DISH Network system might require two satellite dishes instead of one, but the cost is always the same (usually free or cheap with some kind of 12, 18, or 24-month committment).

Although I am a DirecTV customer, I have to admit that Dish does have more HD channels. With that said, DirecTV has better sports and movie offerings and is usually first to market with new features/technologies.

Right now is definitely the time to buy though. DirecTV always does their most aggressive offer in the fall.

I even have Dish community and we lose the sign for approximately 15 min over an entire 365 days! From a dependability point of view, they might desire to the two be with regard to the comparable; they use particularly the comparable technologies. in case you have been having outages that regular and severe, i could be extra apt responsible the installation extremely than the provider. perhaps the dish became not aimed properly or became not placed so as that it had a clean view of the satellites.

DishNetwork has more HD channels if you are interested in that feature. They also offer the cheapest package if you are just interested in getting news and other family channels.
