What do I do with my old VHS? Will there ever be a cheap and easy way to convert them to DVD? Or will they become obsolete too?

Like all the other answers above you can buy a machine that will transfer them. VCR DVD burner combo.

However, your VHS tapes will most likely out last any burned DVD. A burned DVD has a 2 to 5 year life span. An industry dirty little secret. So put them on DVD for convenience but keep your old VHS tapes for subsequent re-burnings.

There are dual systems: a VCR plus a DVD Recorder.
That´s the easiest way to copy you tapes to DVD.
And no need to complicate yourself with connections.
