My hubby went from So. California to Colorado, to Maine, to Virginia (then met me), then to No. Cal and back to So Cal in 5 yrs. He (and I) just liked seeing new places, and it's impossible to get to know a new place on a vacation. Even now, we move to a new SoCal city if our rent gets too high. We'll probably never buy a house, we like moving too much.
Besides, Arcata is a really beautiful town, from what I hear. There is also a huge spiritual community there. If there was a Target there, I'd probably already be asking my hubby to try for a transfer there...
No, we aren't running from police or debt collectors. We face our probs, never run, and we are normal, happily married people with a young son. We're trying to settle down now, b/c our son needs a stable environment. But we'll never stop looking...

Change of scenery, some inherent desire to get as far away as possible from people who know you, without moving out of the country. A desire to distance yourself from familiar things because you enjoy a challenge and figure that should be just far enough to give you a fresh start.

I say this because I did it. I moved from the area I grew up in, in northern California to PA. Just picked up and moved. Made my decision based in a large part on these things basically in the space of a month (when it became definate), and just did it. Ended up meeting my husband in the end lol.

I credit my cyclical wanderlust to my military upbringing and long line of military ancestors. Air Force dependents are a nomadic people. Every three years, I feel like it's time to go. It's tough, but I fight it because I've finally made a home for myself in Texas. Finally I get to stay somewhere I like and nobody can make me move!

in pursuit of career/a better job or desired education? string of failed romances? criminal record? didn't pay the rent and ran up bills in the last place? there could be many reasons.

possibly hope for location to make the person happy. which it doesn't. some people move when they are unhappy to try to make themselves happier.

I call it 'wander-lust' -- mine stems from formerly being in the military and having to move every 3 - 4 years. My mind automatically thinks I'm supposed to pack up and move somewhere else - I fight the urge every single summer!!

I guess they didn't want to leave the U.S. just to see a commie country so they opted for California. Actually anyplace in the south would've done.

A person who feels something is missing from their life, the grass is always greener someplace else. They must be searching for something and they don't know where to look.
