I am having trouble controlling my laughter. Unfortunately, you have a squatter, not a lifter, sorry man, you will just have to deal with it. Get him a cute pink collar-he will like that. But don't try to demonstrate again unless you want to carry his puppies. Your dog is gay dude.

He wasn't being a homo by mounting you, he was showing you who's boss. That's how male dogs assert their power over other male dogs.
As for his peeing behavior, I've had many a dog in my sixty years. All boy dogs will pee by squatting like a girl dog now and then. The lifting of the leg to pee on an object is actually an instinctual behavior that's called "marking". He's putting his scent out for other dogs, telling 'em "This is MY territory and you better watch out!" It's not necessary for a domestic dog to do that, but dogs are not noted for the capacity to reason things out.
My suggestion to you is, you're too concerned with your own image and not nearly as caring about the dog as you should be. Let your GF walk her own dog and spend some time learning about animal behavior.

Well, all I can say is that I was having a horrible day until I decided to go on to Answers and the first question I came up with was yours. I can only imagine the way you looked trying to train the dog how to pee. I'm still sitting here laughing hysterically. Thanks for making my day.
By the way, I have a 5 month old male Maltese that does not hike his leg up either, but I'll be dam*ed if I'm going to attempt to show him! LOL He'll either learn on his own, or guess what....he'll be squatting to pee for the rest of his life!!!!

Some male dogs only lift their leg to mark territory, not just to pee..some never do lift their legs, especially if neutered early. Why is this a bad thing? He won't be marking your couch, walls, bed...etc. OH, and nobody cares whether he does or not! Please get over yourself! It sounds like you need more help than he does-By the way, the mounting is a demonstration of dominance..Most likely because you are crawling around on the ground in front of him. He is obviously in charge!!!!

Most male dogs will pee like a female at first. My dog did for about a year. Then new neighbors moved in with a male dog. After that, my dog started lifting his leg. I guess they just need to see another male dog doing it first.
And so what if he does pee like a female. It's nothing to get embarassed about.

Get over it. Let the dog pee the way he wants to pee. He will only lift his leg to mark. I have a male English Bulldog and he used to mark outside all the time but now that he is old he doesn't care. As long as he gets to pee. I also have a puppy female Maltipoo and from watching him she squats and lifts her left leg. So as long as they are healthy and there is no harm being done I really do not care how my dogs pee. Get over it!!

Two of my male dogs were neutered young and never urinated like other male dogs. Neither ever had the desire to mark their territory. And I do not think any one else would pay attention or care how the dog pees, so don't worry about it.

Sounds like you ahve a lot of growing up to do. How old is the dog? All dogs male and female start out this way. I am sure with time it will hike its leg to urinate. You cannot teach a dog anything by having it watch while you demonstrate. I bet the dog is embarrassed to be out with you also....lol

All dogs pee the same. They squat. Male dogs lift their legs to mark territory. Quit pushing your own insecurities on the dog!

Does the dog tell you how to pee? It's probably a puppy and that is normal. Be grateful that it's peeing outside.

Your GF's dog should meet mine, she pees like a boy, lifting either her left or right leg slightly when she goes....sometimes she even alternates during her pee. Very amusing.
