IF ITS YOUR FIRST OFFENSE YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY FINES AND GO TO AA CLASSES. YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR LICENCE FOR AWHILE BUT YOU CAN GO BACK TO COURT FOR A HARDSHIP LICENCE AFTER A BIT SO YOU CAN DRIVE TO CLASSES AND WORK. JUST THROW YOURSELF ON THE MERCY OF THE COURT AND THIS IS PROBABLY WHAT YOUR GONNA GET. WITH OR WITHOUT AN ATTORNEY. MY BROTHER JUST WENT THROUGH THIS. BUT HE HAD TO DO 3 DAYS IN JAIL WITH TIME SERVED FOR WHEN HE WAS ARRESTED. GOOD LUCK.

Plead guilty, don't bother with a lawyer. You'll be convicted anyway, only it will cost you an additional $1500. (Most states have mandatory sentencing for DUIs. All a lawyer does is stand beside you while the judge tells you the following:)
You'll lose your license for a year, but be eligible for a provisional license to get to work. You'll also pay a fine, probably a few hundred dollars.
Go to alcohol counseling, probably 10-20 hours, and a year later, get your license back.
Blame Mad Mothers for inflicting ridiculous penalties on people for DUIs. It's all about money and politics. It has nothing to do with saving lives.

First....get a lawyer...second....think long and hard about choices made while under the influence of alcohol. Make sure you have someone designated to drive next time you decide to drink. But ...that doesn't help you now....what will help is to get a lawyer and don't depend on a public defender.

for a long miserable time,, driving is a privilege, not an absolute right,, one day at a time, but you have to stay sober if you want society to allow you to have a deadly weapon out on the streets and highways again,, take a defensive driving course,, if offered at your local community college,, if not, call the DA's office to inquire,, good luck

Many people are getting DUIs now. Research about Mel Gibson's fine and you'll see what you have to deal with, (You may not get exactly what he got, but you'll get some of the same).
Grit your teeth, it's going to take a while.
