The bolt wont stay back on the last shot, the shotgun is alot like a model 1100, if that helps. I dont know whats up? I took it apart to see, but nothing looks missing or broken. The gun shoots fine, all three shots as fast as you can pull the trigger, but the bolt wont stay open on the last shot, you have to load it through the magizine tube and then pull the charging handle back to load it. Like I said it looks like it has the same guts as an 1100 but dont quote me on it. Any info would be appriciated. thanks

It used to but wont anymore, It has the release button on the bottom just like the 1100 and the 1187, in fact the gun looks just like them.

The bolt-stop spring is worn out or missing. It has been known for them to fly out without seeing them when they break due to old age..
I would take it immediately to a qualified gunsmith and have them look it over and replace any worn springs, parts, etc.
Many a good shooter(gun) has had little to nothing wrong with them and all of a sudden stopped functioning as they used to and caused alarm for the owner. Simple maintenance will go a long way to prolonging the life of such a weapon.

Remington Model 58

Seeing how the Sportsman 58 was built between 1956 and 1963 it is possible it was built without a bolt stop.. Not all manufacturers put bolt-stops on semi-auto firearms back then.

Being that I'm not familiar with the model I can't say for sure.. If it used to stay open, and is supposed to, then obviously something wore out or broke. But I can't be sure, because as I said, it may not have had a bolt stop in the first place.

I am very familiar with the 1100 (I could dis-assemble it completely, blind folded [once checking that its unloaded of course])...but not with the 58..

Since you aren't as familiar with the model 58 as you are with the 1100 it may be in your best interest to have a qualified gunsmith have a look at it, in case something you overlooked is causing the issue.Any firearm should have periodic inspections performed by a gunsmith or armorer anyhow, just in case something is worn out, or about to wear out. In the case of your model 58 since you already know it used to last shot lock, and now it doesn't, it's obvious something is worn or broken and will need replacing, something you might have a gunsmith do anyhow. Good luck !

It's probably built without a bolt stop.
