It lasts till you finally wake up and see the reality.

Infatuation will last as long as you let it.

Honestly, if nothing ever happens (you never talk or flirt) then you can expect to be off that bandwagon in a month or so and on to your next. If you actually speak to each other and interact, you're looking at a longer time period. Depending on the contact obviously. My guess is that if you are talking and interacting with this person for longer than 6 months and he or she hasn't made some sort of move, it will turn into a friendship.

It varies, depending on a number of factors, such as what you see in that person, how old you are, etc. The longest I've been infatuated with someone is over a year, and I found I never really got over it. The thing to do is have closure - if you can find the confidence, ask the person out. Even if you know they'll reject you, at least it makes it easier to start moving on with your life.

we may be in the same boat bud, I have been infatuated with a girl for five years now. I told her exactly how I felt, bought the flowers, got her stuff for her birthday, received gifts from her too, etc... But in the end, I waited too long and she had moved on...which sucks for me, don'e let it suck for you. Tell her how you feel ASAP.

Read on for my patetic highlights:
I couldn't get a hold of this girl all day, I drove around our city picking up flowers/weeds that I thought were pretty, put some in a bouquet I bought. I ended up waiting until 1AM at her house for her to come home from her beau. I gave her the 11th draft of a card and read it to her, she hugged me goodnight and told me she already had a beau.

Y'know, it feels good to post this.

I had one that lasted several years. It was kind of off and on but the thought used to cross my mind at least once or twice a week. It turns to obsession if you constantly think about it, or whatever it is.

I don't know. My longest was probably about a year. Part of it depends on how much encouragement you're getting, and whether you're trying to "get over" that person.

as long as you allow it... AND IT CAN GET DANGEROUS IF YOUR NOT CAREFUL! Do not lead this person on! If it's you... being infatuated with someone else... seek help... move on... or let the person know your interested...

some months to even some years.
It depends on how old you are and how attached you get to the person.
