Vinyl and ceramic tile are cold, I want my floors to feel warm. Also, is there such a thing as waterproof carpet padding, in case the slab might get damp?

Any carpet can be installed on slab just as it is on wood. I would suggest a 8# rubber padding. It will give you a little protection against moisture and make it warmer as well. Being 8# it will also give you some protection if kids fall on it. Mils

When I lived in Colorado, my home was on a concrete slab. The kitchen and baths were tiled and were extremely cold in the winter (fall through spring). I replaced the carpet and discovered the padding is as important as the carpet. I elected the best padding I could get, and it helped keep everything warm during the harsh winters. You may want to inquire about waterproof padding from a professional carpet dealer. Good luck!

We use indoor/outdoor carpeting. It's a little rough but nevertheless impervious to a cement slab.

indoor/outdoor carpet squares are the best to use and install for that they are easy to clean and handle the wear and tear.
