Is this okay? Is it something that all minorities should have? What about religious minorities like atheists? In which categories (skin color, heritage, disability, etc...) should minorities recieve special attention?

I believe people who are disabled deserve "special" attention. NOT pity, just help if needed.

I think that originally minorities were treated poorly, women, blacks, American indians. But now it is time to stop feeling guilty

I think all people should be treated equally, regardless of their skin color, heritage, disability, sex or religion. All people should have equal opportunity.

When my daughter graduated high school with a 4.0, we ran into descrimination with schlorships. Only the poor could get many of the scholarships. While we aren't poor, we didn't have money set aside for college, so we needed for her to be able to get scholarships.

I had promised my kids that good grades would give them opportunities....and that was not the case with scholarships.
Another kind of discrimination.

Affirmative Action. If minorities weren't given some special attention, bad people in power would continue to be bad people in power.

Religion cannot be included because of separation of church and state.

Categories must include those minorities that have been and can still be abused by those in power.

Atheism is not a religion, religion is a belief, ahteism is a non-belief. Atheists do get special attention, we can no longer pray in school, have christmas pagents, etc. put up a cross to honor the death of a loved one, display the 10 commandments, all because atheists are so intimidated by the concept of God and for some reason, crosses scare them to death. I'm thinking atheists and vampires have a lot in common.

Our country has a screwed up system. We have elected officials that just double talk and confuse the general public.

I'm sure if you look, there is something for special opportunities for atheists, or any group you might be affiliated with.

It may not be the correct thing to do for whatever group it is but it happens everyday.

We need to change alot of things, take back control of our system. Only we can fix it.

i think of this is the bulls**t way that united states of america of america is being run. I hate the undeniable fact that i'll get a job because of the fact i'm a female, and not because of the fact i'm very qualified. the comparable is going for races, and so on. i'm no longer attempting to be impolite, chilly hearted or something...yet i'm proud to be white, and that i'm no longer allowed to assert it because of the fact human beings get indignant....why is it the only individual i will hate is a white one?

It is so that us white people have a fair chance. Between the Chinese, Japanese, Hispanics, Jews, Vietnamese, Haitians, Cubans, Arabs, Indians and Afro-Americans, us whities don't have much chance. I was lucky as I was adopted by a Chinese family, but life is still tough. My dad made me convert to Buddhism so I don't worry about Muslims, Jews, Hindu, Taoists, or Cao Dai. Maybe someday I can stop dying my hair black and take out these brown contact lens.

There is one simple answer to your question:
The wheel that sqeaks the loudest, gets oiled first. That is what Minorities represent. The big push into the destruction that America is today, really shifted into high gear in the late fifties and continued on into the sixties with the Riots, and now we are suffering the effects of that Minority takeover. The big push to restructure society began in earnest in the sixties.

This started years ago and will probably never end unfortunately. Regardless of who is qualified for a job, you have to hire the minority first or face a lawsuit. How sad.

Doing things to ensure equal opportunities does not equal "special opportunities". Leveling the playing field only intimidates those who feel they shouldn't have to compete.
