I've always like Woody Alleens take on this
"It's not that I'm afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens."
But I really like that quote by Auden. Very powerful

Et tu Brute'? How about "Crikey that hurts." I will miss that guy and so will my children. His shows were favorites of theirs. Was he Free? Was he happy? The question is absurd. Had anything been wrong, we should certainly have heard. Steve Irwin will not be an unknown citizen in Australia. I always liked the quote from John Donne: "Death be not proud." It can be applied to the death of the crocodile hunter.

No I think of death as more of a boyoiyoiiiiing sound.(say it out loud)
Like when the coyote gets clobbered with one of his well intentioned roadrunner catching inventions. It just sneaks up and whacks you in the face sometimes. I don't mean to sound glib but that's how it feels to me.
And yes I have a quote.
"The last one shot's a permanent vacation".
It's funny it's the second time this week I've felt like trotting that out.

The quotation from a bible - first sentence in Dostoevsky preface for "Brothers Karamasov " -
"unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit".
I have the impression Russians believe it strongly and don't care for life much. This is where Russian roulette comes from..

His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" (Mat 25:21).
