but when a known atheist we all loved dies, Steve Irwin, so many are unwilling to admit that according to the very same beliefs they use to warn me, that he's brimstone fodder being tortured for all eternity right now?
Is it that they realize how horribly unjust and cruel that would make their god and when faced with a real world application of their nonsense, they find it distasteful? Is it only acceptable when it's a vague threat, but not when it's a real world application?

because it turns out that heaven if for all the people Christians love and like, while hell is for all the people that do "bad" that Christians have no idea who the people really are.

I think that they warn you because you are not dead yet. It's a little bit late to warn Steve Irwin, isn't it?
God is not cruel. He is merciful AND just. I've been reading your posts, and somewhere inside of you, I know that there is a believer. I have some faith that he will find his voice again someday.

Christians promote fire and brimstone for all non-believers until they come across one that they like and accept as one of their own. It's funny of all the posts I have seen, the one that comes up alot is the disbelief that he was an atheist.I actually could clearly see him as an atheist, naturalist, animal lover- I would have accepted as a Christian too-he just seemed like a great guy.

First , GOD made Hell before man. Second, were you really literate on my Beliefs you could make an accurate statement about them arguements! As in 'harping' via Love instead of playing a guilt trip tune! Oh, by the by ,you are being totally Judgemental here and degrading others regarding their Beliefs! Did you learn that from your 'people warning me'? Thirdly, why does Hell bother you, if as a Atheist, do not believe in it?! It should be of no more pain than Hindu idols,or wyche curses! So do not get 'defensive' when your peers challenge you...

Poor Steve, but what an awesome example of a sweet loving person who was an atheist. And those many xians who loved him too have to accept what their religion is forceing them to deal with. Hopefully they will re-examine their bibles and look for a loophole for ole Stevie-boy, or realize how flawed and dumb their beliefs really are. Sorry you picked the wrong swimming buddy Steve, Memorial day will be your day too from now on.

Well, all religions are basically the same. Aside from that Christians and Catholics are the only ones that spend most of their time trying to convert people who could care less (and radical Islamic fundamentalists). I think it may come down to the fact that, not a lot of people knew that Steve Irwin was an atheist.

Interesting, I didn't know he was an atheist, but it doesn't surprise me. But just for the record, I'd just like to say I was surprisingly upset to hear about his death. I think the world has lost a true icon, not to mention a positive role model and worthwhile hero for kids all over the world.
And I swear, if there was a god, he would have killed Paris Hilton with that stingray, and left Steve Irwin here with us. That's proof enough, folks!

they just can't believe that you don't believe in those sorts of things. That simple. I'm thinking not EVERYONE knows Steve Irwin was an atheist. Least I didn't know, I'll take your word for it.

How about that? I didn't know he was an atheist either. I don't have television, so I've really only seen him once or twice, but I liked him, and now I like him even more. My respects. The man did what we were put on Earth to do.

Hmmm....how odd that there aren't more christians answering this question, affirming their belief that Steve's in hell.
